1. The
psychologists at FPP do not take any insurance plans at this
time. All clients pay the full fee at the time of service
and can choose to send in their receipt to their insurance
company to apply towards out of network benefits if desired.
Our decision
to not use insurance plans is based on several factors. First,
insurance companies are requiring increasing amounts of personal
and private information that we feel violates our client's
condfidentiality. Second, many people come to see us for what
we call "Wellness" sessions in which there is no
clinical or diagnosable problem. Insurance companies require
a mental health diagnosis to pay benefits and often times
our clients do not have a formal diagnosis. For example, many
parents need a few sessions for guidance on parenting techniques
or builing their child's self-esteem, and this would not covered
by an insurance company unless the child was diagnosed with
a mental health disorder. Further, many adults seek out psychotherapy
to examine persoanl goals, relationships, and currents stressors
but again do not have a formal mental health diagnosis, so
these visits would not be covered by an insurance plan. Third,
insurance companies often limit the number of sessions a client
can recieve and at FPP we believe we are in a better position
to determine the number of sessions a client needs for thier
personal goals.
2. If
you are thinking about using your "out-of network" benefits
we suggest calling your insurance company to find out what
your deductible is for "Out-of-Network Mental Health Benefits."
After your deductible is met, most insurance companies will
reimburse 50 to 70 percent of the fee.
With children
and adolescents, often times the deductible is met after the
initial tailored evaluation is conducted and the initial session
is completed. The remaining counseling sessions are then covered
primarily by the insurance company. At FPP, we think this
a good option for many people.
Why
should I choose a psychologist at FPP when I can see someone
on my insurance plan? This decision is clearly your choice.
However, at FPP we believe we provide excellent mental health
care and work hard to truly be helpful to you and your family.
We take the time to do a thorough initial evaluation when
appropriate, which leads to a specific and accurate treatment
plan. We then review the progress of treatment with you and
reassess goals as needed.
Regarding
children and adolescents, many times people come into our
practice and their children have had several professionals
diagnosis them with different disorders, and the treatment
did not seem to help. This can happen when the whole picture
is not assessed. Often times the situation is more complicated
than can be understood by one questionnaire and a short parent
interview. We believe our quality of services are worth the
extra cost for your peace of mind and for your child's well-being.
