Dr. Niki
Ryser received her Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology and
Spanish from Austin College in 1995, and her Master of Arts
degree in clinical and counseling psychology from Southern
Methodist University in 1998. She earned her Doctor of Philosophy
degree in clinical psychology from the University of Texas
Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas in 2002, completing
her post-doctoral training in clinical psychology with Senior
Connections, Inc. Throughout her professional training and
career, Dr. Ryser has worked in a variety of settings, including
in outpatient psychotherapy clinics, inpatient psychiatric
hospitals, hospital emergency room, primary care clinics,
the school system, the juvenile justice system, inpatient
geriatric units/homes, and on neuropsychology consultation
service. Her clinical experience has remained equally diverse,
with training/work in the areas of adult assessment and psychotherapy
(individual, family, and group), child/adolescent assessment
(for learning disabilities and emotional disturbance) and
psychotherapy, health psychology, women's issues, geropsychology,
pain management, neuropsychology, crisis intervention, and
forensics. She has also conducted research in the areas of
childhood illness, juvenile offenders, cultural issues relative
to mental health, and anxiety disorders. Dr. Ryser participates
in several professional organizations, including the American
Psychological Association, the Texas Psychological Association,
and the Collin County Psychological Association.
Dr. Ryser's
primary clinical interest is in women's issues, particularly
those issues related to women's health and reproduction, including
postpartum adjustments/reactions, grief and stress associated
with pregnancy loss and infertility, and coping in response
to female-specific illnesses (e.g., ovarian cancer, etc.).
